ABOUT THE PROJECT
As Newcastle’s cost of land increases, access to usable, open spaces for its inhabitants will become more exclusive. To this end, the Anglican Diocese of Newcastle had the foresight to capitalise on their location.
Initially we were to provide staff members with a flexible meeting space; capable of casual meetings, training and collaboration outside of the main office environment. However, the roof zone was identified as an opportunity to exceed brief expectations by providing additional space for casual colleague interactions, as well as the added benefit of a framed, panoramic view of the Newcastle CBD. Subsequently, staff are offered a sightline to the Anglican Christchurch Cathedral and an enviable glimpse of the Honeysuckle Harbour.
The design was able to help connect users to the wider community, reflecting the wider values held by the clients. Further, the colour palette also reflects the discretion of design.
